HARMONIOUS MILAN
Part 1: A Long Street of Friends
I. Walking Venice and Buenos Aires Curse
After crossing the Alps, as Hannibal, I arrived at Milan city. I dreamed a lot coming to Italy, and after many years I finally did it. I arrived by train in Milan Station, this building is monumental and beautiful, with a wonderful architecture like a luxury palace, that I recommend you visit it even if you don’t come by train. I stay in different places close to Loreto or Lima, these two zones are at the beginning of the Buenos Aires curse, a long street that starts here and it continue to the center of the city, even if change its name in the middle of the route.
This long street is my favorite, I loved this street, for me was like a white wine river, because the color is lightly, soft and sublime, and you can walk there in middle of grandiose buildings, I loved this route, and when I walked among every kind of people, in this lively city, I felt part of the city, even if I don’t knew no one, in my first walk I felt at home, I arrived at home.
After, I made a lot of friends here. I knew an Argentinian guy interested in yoga, a Chilean girl in a journey in Europe like me, an Indian that live in Germany and that came here in a journey in Italy, an Afghan guy, an Italian driver, a French guy, a Colombian guy who is studying fashion in Milan, an Italian lady, all they very beautiful people.
There was a Russian guy from Belorussia, I knew him because he was traying to communicate with the receptionist, but she didn’t speak English, then I with my bad English, bad Russian and good Italian I translated them. We communicated with this guy for a while more by WhatsApp to practice my Russian and his English. I also knew a Turkey guy always smiling with a restaurant where I taste the turkey coffee and tea, in the Istanbul Kebab, on via Vitruvio, I recommend this place, especially for poor people like me, cheap and plentiful quality food.
In the same street Vitruvio I stayed in the hostel Coconut, and in Loreto I stayed in Koala Hostel, both shared rooms, and I stayed in another place but is private, I stayed with… is a large story, I’ll tell you later. I think both hostels are of the same owner, the infrastructure and comfort is better in Coconut, the Koala Hostel has bad bathrooms, bad air-conditioning, no privacy between beds, bad beds, sometimes the card fail, and in all this Coconut wins, but I recommend Koala Hostel for poor people like me, it’s in the center and is very cheap, you always meet people in the dining room and in the rooms and you can make a lot of friends if you are a social person, and the staff attention is better, there is always one of them, in Coconut there are fewer people, worse staff attention, sometimes there is no person at the reception, and the price is double, even if around the normal price is higher in other hostels and hotels, but I think Coconut is expensive for the service, Koala Hostel maybe is not the ideal hostel, but has the basic and the price is fair, you pay what you get. There are other cheap hostels in the center only for women, I don’t know if they discriminate us men or women pay in a different way… but Koala Hostel is cheap and does not discriminate against us, is another point in its favor. If I go to Milan once more, I will stay probably at Koala Hostel. Koala Hostel is after the end of the Buenos Aires Course, my favorite street of Milan.
Along this street, just on the divide between Buenos Aires Course and Venice Course it’s the Venice Gate, a neoclassical gate composed of two buildings with the front like Greek temple and with sculptures around them, one of these a statue of Athene, my favorite to tell the truth. Next to this Gate is the Indro Montanelli Garden with the Milan Natural History Museum, the Planetarium and a lot of statues inside, and behind, at the southwest corner, you can find the Cavour Square.
